MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
The department of Management Studies was
started in the year 2005 with the
approval of AICTE and it is affiliated to
Pondicherry
Central
University
. The
course was started with a view to develop a class of entrepreneurs to
accelerate the process of industrialization in the country. The
department with its vibrant and experienced faculty members imparts
managerial traits to the students. Besides periodical guest lectures,
eminent personalities from industries, professional bodies and
academic circle visit the department and share their expertise.
The salient operative features of the
programme are participative learning through group discussions, role
play, case studies, brainstorming sessions, stress management
programmes, and performance in simulated business environment through
business games, and sharing the ideas and experiences among students
and expert academicians.
Curriculum
The
two year full time MBA programme is spread over 4 semesters. During
the first two semesters the students are exposed to the basics of
general management underlying different operational functions of
corporate management through core subjects. In the third and fourth
semester the students are permitted to choose electives suitable to
their personal interest leading to specialization in any functional
area of management viz. Finance, Marketing, HRD and Systems.
There
will be a summer project spanning eight weeks at the end of second
semester and winter project spanning ten weeks at the end of third
semester.
The
major highlight of the curriculume is the Comprehensive Viva Voce
which makes the students to know the nuke and corner of the subject
thoroughly which helps them to deploy their theoretical knowledge when
exposed to practical situation.
Evaluation
Evaluation is based on the
continuous internal and external assessment. The ratio of the internal
and external assessment is 25:75. The external assessment is done
through the written examination conducted by
Pondicherry
University
at the end of each semester. Internal assessment is based on the
attendance, internal tests and model exams conducted.
Association
Stratagem, the association of department
of Management Studies was inaugurated in the year March 2007. Through
this association, many seminar programmes were conducted by inviting
the management practitioners from various professional and business
organizations to share their ideas and experiences with the aspiring
managers in order to strengthen the awareness and enrich their
knowledge to fit them into the demanding business world.
Industrial
visits
Industrial visits are often
arranged to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical
knowledge. Moreover in the industrial visits, the students are exposed
to real corporate environments.
