DEPARTMENT OF INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL ENGINEERING
Instrumentation
plays an important role in almost all type of industries like
electrical, electronics, mechanical, chemical etc. We can also say that
no industry can run their operations without control systems and
instruments to monitor their performance and maintain the same.
With a view to
serve the Indian industries, Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College
have started this important branch of Engineering in the year, 2002-03
with an initial maximum intake of 30.
In this
Instrumentation and Control Engineering curriculum, in addition to the
basic Engineering in the first year, students are trained the following
specialized areas of Engineering as per the Pondicherry University
syllabus.

A separate department Instrumentation and Control Engineering is managed by qualified staff members. It has well equipped laboratories with the computer labs, latest instruments and equipment. The department has its own library to cater for the specific needs of students.

TRANSDUCERS & MEASUREMENT SYSTEMS LAB
In this lab the students acquire knowledge on various transducers. Apart from transducers the students also gets experience in working with sensors for various process measurements. This imparts the students with the knowledge and working with transducer and sensor for various industrial applications.

Electronic Measurement and Instrumentation Lab
Electronics measurements& instrumentation lab is a state of act laboratory that provides the students hands on experience in analog and digital instrumentation techniques they require for selection and testing the instruments and accessories used in process plants and industries.

Electronics Lab
This lab provides the students the experience to work with various integrated circuits and integrated circuits oriented industrial application. The students will work with amplifiers, oscillators and all types of rectifiers. Also the students are imparted with practical knowledge of application of all circuits. |
Industrial
Instrumentation Lab
In Industrial Instrumentation lab, the students are trained for calibrating various instruments like flow meter, conductivity meter, ph meter, pressure gauge, I to P and P to I converter, RTD, thermocouple, level transmitter etc. This lab is equipped with industrial application oriented meters like spectrophotometer, Viscometer etc.

Process Control Lab
Process control lab gives a close light on process like flow, level, temperature and pressure. It enables the students community to acquire industry compatible knowledge on control valves and commanding knowledge can definitely open up many doors for the students and it is real shot in the arm when they seek an employment.

Simulation Lab
The lab is well equipped with 30 PCs using powerful software tools like MATLAB, PSPICE, ALTERA etc., Simulation of control system experiments like Root locus, Bode plot, Nyquist plot, Nicholâs plot etc., are being conducted in this lab. Simulation of electronic circuits like amplifiers, oscillators, BTasing circuits for transistor and FET, filters and resonance circuits are also being done.
Strength of material Lab
The lab houses in it Universal testing machine (40 tones), Brinell’s and Rockwell hardness, impact, spring, wood and plastic testing machines, torsion testing machine, Erichission testing machine etc., to test the strength of the materials.

Fluid
Mechanics & Hydraulic Machinery Lab
Different types of flow
measuring devices like pitot tube, venturimeter, flow meter
etc to study the flow process and its losses, Buoyancy and
floatation test.
Hydraulic turbines like Francis and Pelton wheel, centrifugal,
reciprocating, gear oil, submersible and jet pumps to study
the Electro-mechanical energy conversions.

COMPUTER CONTROL OF PROCESSES LAB
We provide all the prototypes of computer aided industrial processes so that the students gets the industrial expertise and will be ready to work in any chemical and petrochemical industries once they complete their graduation.
