Abstract

This paper presents an insight into the speed control of DC motor using a fuzzy logic controller to meet the desired speed. Fuzzy logic is one of the most successful applications of fuzzy set in which the variables are linguistic rather than numeric. A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is based on a set of control rules (fuzzy rules) among linguistic variables. The personal computer provides the necessary flexibility in setting any speed profile with the use of fuzzy packages.

The proposed fuzzy controller results in a better response compared to the basic fuzzy controller and normal response of DC motor. It consists of major parts; hardware implementation. In the hardware part, H-bridge DC motor driver will be designed and developed. The designed H-bridge DC power converter will be used as the hardware interface between DC motor and the microprocessor-based fuzzy controller. A frequency to-voltage converter (FVC) and analogue-to-digital converter (ADC) will be used to convert and provide the actual speed signal from speed rotary tachometer, and to be used as fuzzy controller input.

Finally, the power consumption efficiency can be greatly improved by constantly monitoring the variables without much operational costs. The manufacturing as well as operation costs can be reduced this way.

Abstract

Improper tyre pressure is a safety issue that is often overlooked or ignored. A drop in tyre pressure by just a few pounds per square inch (psi) can result in the reduction of mileage, tyre life, vehicle safety and performance. On the other hand, regular RF devices embedded in tyreshave an unacceptably short range due to losses in the tyre wall. The present design of tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) addresses most of these problems. It uses RF communication coupled with microcontroller. Tyre pressure is measured in real time which helps eliminating many tyre pressure related challenges.

Abstract

Today human-machine interaction is moving away from mouse to pen and is becoming pervasive and much more compatible with the physical world. The gap between machines and humans is being reduced with the introduction of new technologies to ease the standard of living day by day. Gestures have played a vital role in diminishing this abyss. In this project work, a rigorous analysis of human-machine interaction using gestures has been presented. Gestures can be captured with the help of an accelerometer, this project deals with the design and implementation of a portable robot control using accelerometer. This robot can be used for navigation and monitoring system. The system design is divided into two parts namely: accelerometer part and robot part. It is basically an accelerometer based system which controls a robotic car using a small and low-cost, 3-axis accelerometer via wirelessly.

Abstract

Unmanned railway gate control using PLC is to provide an automatic railway gate at a level crossing replacing the gates operated by the gatekeeper. It deals with two things. Firstly, it deals with the reduction of time for which the gate is being kept closed and secondly, to provide safety to the road users by reducing the accidents. By employing the automatic railway gate control at the level crossing the arrival of the train is detected by the Obstacle sensor placed nearer to the gate. Hence, the time for which it is closed is less compared to the manually operated gates and also reduces the human labor. This type of gates can be employed in an unmanned level crossing where the chances of accidents are higher and reliable operation is required. Since the operation is automatic error due to manual operation is prevented.

Abstract

In parallel to developing technology, demand for more energy makes us seek new energy sources. The most important energy source chosen in this project is the renewable energy resources. Wind and solar energy have being popular ones owing to abundant,ease of availability and convertibility to the electric energy. In this project work, the hybrid renewable energy system has been investigated. All the natural wastage energies are used for production of electricity. Thus, the electricity is available with a minimum cost and pollution free to anywhere in the world at all times. This process reveals a unique step in electricity generation and availability from natural resources without hampering the ecological balance. This hybrid solar-wind power generating system will extensively use in the industries and also in external use like home appliances. Wind power generation and solar power generation are combined to make a wind-solar hybrid power generation system.

Abstract

Trip switch indicators are used in the conveyor belt to detect the change in directions of the belt. The manual override of these switches, to detect a fault is a tedious process, since there are lots of switches which have to be checked before identifying the faulty one. The addressable safety switch will help in identifying the trip switch much easily and will enhance the working of the trip switch. The proposed project helps in identifying the tripped switch much easily and will enhance the working of the trip switch. The addressable switch is made to communicate through wireless means to the handheld device which will display the address of the tripped switch. Thus the aim is to create a wireless communicating addressable unit. The addressing is done with the help of microcontroller unit. The communications are made wireless through Zigbee connectivity. For further identifications, the tripped switches are indicated through LCD. The proposed system is economically efficient. It is an advanced technology conforming to industrial standards and flexible with various switches, that is associated with the trip indicators.

Abstract

In this project, Motion Controlled Password Recognition system for using MEMS accelerometer is implemented using embedded microcontroller. MEMS accelerometer can sense motion in 2 axes (X and Y). Microcontroller analyzes whether any motion is occurring and in the absence of a motion for a predetermined duration, forces the system to go into a low-power mode. The user can assign a predetermined password by fixed set of motions as decided by them. Once the Microcontroller senses any motion, it uses its internal timer to wake itself from sleep mode approximately every 500 ms and stay powered. It then analyzes the motion pattern of the user and provides authentication. Here direction of the motion is assigned as a password to the system. This project presents an advanced authentication based on motion of the system. Unlike most of the previous authentication like biometric, cards to swipe it’s entirely different and more reliable. In our approach, logical patterns are obtained from a physical sensor attached to the system. Acceleration in 4 directions: up, down, forward & backward of the system movement are picked by MEMS sensor, is used for authentication.

Abstract

The numbers of persons who are paralyzed dependent on others due to loss of self-mobility is growing as the population ages. We have developed a wheelchair prototype exclusively controlled by eye and able to help the paralyzed person who moves on a wheelchair. Instead of the handicapped person moves the wheel chair by his hand, the chair will automatically move to a particular direction as the patient moves his eyes towards a direction with the help of eyeball movement detection sensor. The wheelchair will also sense the obstacle in front of it and gives a beep sound. Image processing analyzes the user’s gaze for wheelchair control. Users in the wheelchair along a 9.73-meter track recorded an average travel time of 85.8 second. Wheel chair is battery operated using DC motor 12v/60 rpm -1 amps current rating.

Abstract

The project aims to design and implement the accident rescue system using GSM and zigbee during accident. In the vehicle section, whenever an accident occurs, a message will be sent using a GSM modem to the nearby hospital, so that the ambulance is sent immediately that is it eliminates the human work of making the call to the hospital. A buzzer will alert the passerby people to help the injured one. The test results show that it can detect linear fall, non-linear fall and normal ride with high accuracy. An intelligence schemes such as fall or incident detection with tracking system have also recently been devised to notify the accident to related people so that quickest assistance can be provided. As soon as the ambulance starts moving, the parameters like heart beat and body temperature are measured and forwarded to the nearby doctors/hospitals using a zigbee module. Which here eliminates the need of doctor to be present at the ambulance, the doctor can monitor the patients from a long distance. The main goal is monitoring of selected physiological processes that might be very useful in health care and monitoring during emergency situation Based on the reply, first aid will be done to the patient before they reach the hospital.

Abstract

The segregation based on chromaticity using primary hue is lured in automated packaging sectors. The concept of developing a cheaper and efficient colour sensor has been under the radar these days. To meet these needs, a simple colour sensor was developed using Light dependent Resistor (LDR). Colour sensor developed can be used in the manufacturing process like filling and segregation of paint cans. Based on the colour detected the can is filled and finally segregated accordingly after canning is done. A graphical presentation of the paint industry was simulated using SCADA software (InTouch). This graphical presentation is generally present in the control room screen to monitor the full process going on. A hardware module of sensors and segregation was also implemented.

Abstract

Now-a-days, renewable energy solutions are the major demand. Maximizing power output from a solar system is desirable to increase efficiency. In order to maximize power output from solar panels, one needs to keep the panels aligned with the sun. As such, a means of tracking the sun is required. It has been estimated that the yield from solar panels can be increased by 30 to 60 percent by utilizing a tracking system instead of a stationary array. The solar panel is controlled by using Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), which will keep the solar panels aligned with the sun in order to maximize efficiency. The paper includes the design and implementation of a PLC based solar tracking with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to monitor the solar tracker. The solar tracker also includes the automatic wiping system for moisture control using PLC during extreme cold conditions in order to obtain maximum power efficiently.

Abstract

This project is proposed to overcome the difficulties faced by the farmers in gaining more profit by increasing the productivity and reducing the consumption of water and electricity by using a renewable source of energy. Farmers will be able to monitor and control the irrigation system from one place with the help of software called SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) which does the controlling action through PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). Solar panel with tracking system is used to store solar energy to reduce the consumption of conventional electrical energy. Solar panel tracks the sun with the help of the three LDRs mounted over a hemisphere shaped plate. Top and bottom LDRs are operated as an indicators and the middle LDR is kept as a reference. When the reference LDR detects the light, other two LDRs are kept at non operating condition. This would help the motor to rotate the panel slowly and steadily.

Now a day’s all systems are becoming automated using controller like computer, microcontroller, PLC. It is necessary to automate the power generation and distribution systems (substation). This project is aimed to monitor and control switching circuits in substation such as Isolator, Circuit Breaker, and Relay. The substation environmental temperature is monitored continuously to prevent the overload and fire accident. Wireless communication is introduced to reduce the manpower in the hazardous area to monitor and control the substation elements. To improve the user interface with the system, LabVIEW virtual instrument is used. NI LabVIEW is a graphical programming language designed for engineers and scientists to develop test, control, and measurement applications. The intuitive nature of LabVIEW graphical programming makes it easy for educators and researchers to incorporate the software in a range of courses and applications. With LabVIEW, educators and researchers can use a graphical system design approach to design, prototype, and deploy embedded systems.

Abstract

Also the data that are acquired in the production process helps to know more about the performance of the overall process that are been done. This project deals about the Industrial Automation and Data Acquisition in which the manufactured product has to be counted and as a part of data acquisition the counted values has to be stored in the personal computer this is done because to enhance the performance in the production area and to know about how much does the company producing the product in a day i.e., the number of produced product is sent via SMS to the production manager or to the higher officials and we can also able to create an record or an data base out of it for future references. Then to enhance the automation process in the industry the product which comes out form the molding machine is checked by means of placing the ultrasonic transmitter and receiver along the run way of the product so that it check whether it has any defect in their shape, if anything is found then it is separated by means of an PLC programing via., Ladder logic which is interfaced to the mechanical hardware.
